I took the week off from work with the intent of sewing all week, of course after the new XBOX360 release with netflix, I got sucked into Jericho... second season was a major dissapointment, the fact that I watched both seasons in a room where my sewing machine was not very productive, but the mind escape was good.
Then I got to sewing. I finished binding (which I have yet to learn to love) made a few dish clothes... and loaded them (well the quilts and a few of the dish clothes) up on my etsy shop.
I am even offering free shipping on quilts for the holidays!!
Perhaps one day I will cut only enough fabric for a quilt top (outside of preset bits of fabric) but until that day comes I will continue to have bits left-over. Sometimes even enough for another quilt... I still have triangles from the triangle quilt... they haunt me... but I digress. I took the bits and sewed and cut and cut and sewed and then there it was. A lovely little blue lap, couch or baby quilt.
I still need to go batting shopping... I am not entirely looking for a weekend full of binding...
Today is my friend J9s birthday. Her husband is in a wedding so while he was doing photos and other wedding stuff she came over for lunch and to experiment with her new Cannon EOS. She needed a second battery and some cap keepers so we headed over to Glazer’s and picked them up.
While there I looked at the macro lenses and the wide-angle fish eye lenses. There is one I have been looking at on the Nikkor site, but last time I was at the store they did not have any.
Today they had one. Now they have none.
At my birthday brunch Kympossible gave me these beautiful flowers; but then, after spending 3+ hours in the back seat of a hot car without water, I thought for sure I was going to have to ignore the fact that they ever existed. When I got home I promptly put them in water and look at them now.
Thank you Kympossible!
I would also like to add that her offspring have been entered the category of "pleasant children", congrats kids.
This morning I joined some friends for my birthday brunch. We were originally going to go to Spitfire, but as it turns out you must be over 21 to get in, which did not bode well for my friends with their kids in tow (which is pretty much all of them these days). So we headed over to CJ’s.
The food was quite delicious and it was fun to get all of my friends together since they none of them really know each other.
After, TxK and I headed over to the Crocodile to check out I Heart Rummage. I picked up a lovely bracelet cuff and some really great project ideas. It also further encouraged me to take on the terrarium plan I have been working out in my head.
After which I headed home and did some deck gardening.
I am one of the few apartment dwellers in Seattle to be fortunate enough to have an actual deck. Not a balcony, not a baby-gate (Julianne or whatever it is called). From my deck I also have one of the best views in Seattle, as I look out over Lake Union and Gasworks Park.
When I first moved in I bought about 3 pots in which to grow a few herbs and peppers, the 3 pots have grown into about 12 pots giving me a full-fledged weedless* garden. [*because I live at the top of my building and at the top of a big hill, I rarely get the wandering seed… that said the cilantro I planted last year managed to get a seed into just about every pot.]
Peppers grow really well on my deck I especially love growing habaneras but have had a terrible time finding seedlings last year and this. Lucky for me, C&M came through for me and for my birthday picked me up a few.
The basil, parsley and cilantro sprouted up from plants last year. The mint, lavender and sage from my original garden have weathered the winters well. One of the great things about having a garden in pots is that when there is a cold snap I can just bring the pots inside until it passes.
I am thinking I should go for a walk and enjoy the rest of the day… and then there is laundry.
The Monthly Craft Challenge is to help inspire you to keep crafting all month long.
May:
The first day of the month is May day
In Ireland the First Monday of May is the first day of summer
Mexico celebrates Cinco de Mayo
The second Sunday is Mother’s Day
In Argentina Revolución de Mayo is the 25th of May
In the US we have Memorial day on the last Monday of the month
Towel Day is celebrated in May
Most notably is the phrase: “April showers brings May flowers”
- This month’s challenge is to involve flowers somehow in a craft, be it a print on fabric, floral arrangements, gardening or embroider a flower on to your favorite spring jacket
- Spend time crafting (or getting inspiration) outside
- Create something for a mother: be it yours, a friends, a friend or even you
- Spend at least 3 hours crafting each week
- Tidy up your craft space and show it to us!
Again I will create a button/magnet of the Month for the Challenge which you can PM me for at the end of the month with your address if you feel you have met the criteria for completing the challenge.
PM me at the end of the month if you feel you have completed the challenge and want one.
Now go, craft-up!
