Though I have not been terribly crafty since December, I have been fairly active with my camera... I have developed a bit of an obsession with my fisheye and animal noses…
I have also just been taking more photos overall. Except for this weekend, I had a garage sale with some friends. I managed to get rid of some stuff, but there is still a lot to get rid of. Anyone want to buy my stuff? No my fabric stash is not for sale.
My summer so far... there are worse things than unemployment...
My week (even having taken a 5 day weekend) has been crazy and I am tired.
I brought Dözer back to the shelter.
Cue “booooh”.
He was not very happy about it. In fact I had to drag him back to his kennel, he was spread eagle, head on the floor REFUSING.
Wednesday I worked my volunteer shift.
The dogs were crazy. Everyone barking, many peeing in their cages, tipping water buckets, pooping… Goldie climbed into an adjoining kennel. Dozer was chill, he even shook a little.
So I took him home again.
One night a week I volunteer at an animal shelter, this past week there was a dog there that looks a lot like a dog I had as a kid. The shelter is taking care of the flooring and wanted to get foster homes for the dogs so that they did not have to be near the fumes. So how could I resists??
It is kind of crazy having a big dog at my house, but the first hour seems to be going pretty well.
Outside of that, I also recently photographed a friends wedding. I am pretty happy with the way the images turned out. It was nice because I was able to get another friend of mine to help out and take pics too.
I also went to another wedding out of town a few weekends ago and this weekend I had a bithday....
After a day of observation (hardly eating, not peeing, not pooping and vomiting “grey” when she does eat, apparent back/body pain) I scheduled a vet visit for ZsaZsa. I figured she needs her rabies updated anyway so I had already contacted the vet, but I didn’t want to rush into it (give her a few days to settle in) if she seemed ok.
The vet was confused as to why I thought she is 4-5 when apparently by the looks of her gums and teeth she is closer to 10. After giving her a basic check-up the vet decided that she needed xRays to determine what is causing the pain. So far they found what looks like a small kidney stone – not sure how small considering she is only 9.5lbs to begin with.
The vet also said that she believes she has a problem with her spinal discs and could possibly require surgery.
She did really well at the vet but, has to spend the day at the clinic so I need to pick her up later this afternoon.
Overall I am honestly still not sure what I am going to do with her. I need to think about it, I am not convinced that with my busy schedule I can give her the care she will need, especially if things progress they way they have been. For now I just have to say that she is lucky she is such a sweet dog.
I am working on finding out who her previous vet was, if the folks I adopted her from were not aware of these problems, I am concerned about the ethics of her previous vet. The people that I adopted her from did say that she had dental extractions and let me know about her heart murmur so I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt.
For now it is day to day.
Today was I <3 Rummage day which went alright. The Dead Runnies were a hit and I sold five or six. Then we headed out to pet store we had dropped by while “canvassing” yesterday, they guy who we spoke to yesterday was working and snagged a few samples to show his boss, a.k.a the owner of the store. It was nice because he picked up a sampling of both mine and TxK’s stuff. After we left there we headed over to another locally owned pet store to see what she thought. She put in a trial order to see how they sell. Now I have to make 18+ Dead Runnies! TxK has to make some pigs and another toy, but I have no idea exactly what to call it. She also wants some vests, so tomorrow we are going to figure out a single pattern (since right now we have four or five) and make them in a set of three sizes. All this plus work. Woot! It will be fin though the challenge is to make sure that I am getting the appropriate amount of money for each Dead Runnie. It was a pretty crazy day, well weekend really.
I need to just sit down and cut, cut, cut and sew, sew, sew. Umlaut was pretty happy with it because he walked away with some of the prototypes, now there is no room for him in his crate as it is jam packed with toys. Not that he likes his crate anyway.
Today I went to my friend Kelli’s house for Crafterday… you know, skip work and craft all day instead.
The day started out with Viva Piñata and monkey bread. Kelli pulled out the leftovers that she had from the yellow and blue quilt that she made and let me grabbed any scrap squares that I wanted so I sorted out the ones with the same shade of blue I was using (since the yellow in hers is a little different).
Then I pulled out my travel sewing machine to sew up the second bag I cut last night and then to sew up some of the yellow and blue quilt. That was my plan anyway. The bobbin was acting all crazy, for some reason this machine sometimes winds wonky bobbins, as a result the tension is all buggered up and there are loose threads everywhere. It makes me red in the face angry. I had to pull the stitching out FOUR times before I managed to get the machine to work the way it should mostly.
The bag looks much like the bag I made last night though, I did put a liner in this one and the pocket on the front is a little different. I tossed some yarn and knitting needles in it; it is definitely the perfect size for knitting. You can fit TONS in there and the needles do not stick out all over the place so when you put the bag out, one single needle falls out and rolls across the floor into the abyss of lost needles… you know what I am saying?
That bag was about all I could take so it was time for a break… shopping?
Crafterday usually includes some sort of craft shopping. We headed to Pacific Fabrics. Their prices are a bit insane, but it is nice to see the other options outside of the super frequent trips to JoAnn’s. Plus I needed to get some Seattle Seahawks fabric for a baby quilt I need to make and Kelli wanted to check out the spool of thread novelty lights. After spending too much money and getting not very much, we decided to head over to JoAnn’s; I figured the foam would be cheaper and we wanted to scout out the post holiday sale to see if there was anything good in the remnant bin.
The foam was cheaper; I picked up 1½ yards of foam because I am going to make a new camera bag… or at least attempt to do so. I found this really pretty green nylon that I am going to pick up, but want to use a 40% off coupon on it since it was twenty-four bucks a yard. There was not much in the remnant bin; I did however manage to find 2½ yards of this really cool quilted fabric, add some binding and it is an instant throw blanket; score. It was tucked away over in the home décor section.
My overall haul was pretty good and I managed to walk out of JoAnn’s after spending only twenty bucks and change.
When I got home, I worked a bit on the blue and yellow quilt, though I do not really have much to show for myself as far as that goes. My spare machine is making me nuts though, who makes a machine that I cannot open. I am strong but seriously folks. I think I need to go spare machine shopping sometime soon… grumble.
